How old were you when you first found out you had gout

When I first had signs of gout I was about 20 years old im now 26 and my gout is getting worse. I recently had my worst case of gout about two weeks ago. I was taking allpurinol for about a month proir. I had an attack and was perscribed a steroid treatment which got rid of it. I then got on the allpurinol and used up my first perscription when I went to refill the pharmacist told me they switched manufactures. A week later I had the worst attack ever so I went to the doctor again and had got perscribed indomethacin and colchicine. Which helped me get over the attack in about 2-3 days. Over the past week I have had pain in my toe again which lead to another attack. Its not as bad as the attack that I had a week ago. It still makes life hard. I did a little research and found that that a problem with the kidneys can also cause a gout attack which has alot of syptoms that I can relate to . I have also came to the conclusion that the only foods that would be a low uric acid diet basicly consist of being a vegitarian. I for one can not live without my protien and these perscriptions dont seem to be helping my gout out to much. Anyone have an ideas on a balanced diet to help with my meat cravings and all other foods that seem to be high uric acid foods.
